Welcome to our Web Site! We hope that as you visit our site, you will come to see how much we love God – and how much God wants to love you too! Here at Christus Victor Church (Christus Victor means Christ's the Winner…and you know that's true because since Christ wins, so do we!) we want to spend our time celebrating God's loving involvement with us and with the world around us and we want to learn how to work in ways that show God's great love to the people all around us…and to do so with a smile on our faces.
We welcome you to our church community and ask you to come and visit us. Come and be a part of a community that knows God's love first hand and isn't afraid to share it with the world. Come and join us at Christus Victor…the place where Christ's Victory over sin is real…really real.
HOLY LENT begins on March 5th with the ASH WEDNESDAY OBSERVANCE. We will have two services that day… at 12noon and at 6:30PM.
On Wednesdays in Lent, we will have soup and salad suppers at 5:30PM, with a short Holden Evening Prayer Service afterward. The dates for those Wednesday services include March 12th, 19th, and 26th, April 2nd and 9th.
Christus Victor (that means Christ is the Winner) is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. That's a fancy way of saying that we are part of a larger organization which believes in the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus, God's Son lived and died and rose again and that through his life we are saved from sin, death and the power of the devil. We believe that we can't get to heaven on our own…that it takes pure Jesus-power for us to be made right with God and that it is through God's love, through Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross, and the Holy Spirit's constant and continual intervention that we are able to realize and appreciate all of the great things that God has done and continues to do for us.
We practice infant Baptism rather than believers baptism because we know that God is more powerful than we are – more powerful than anything that we can say or do. Baptizing babies rather than waiting for them to get older is a radical way we show that it is God who chooses us, not we who choose God. Of course, if your background doesn't include infant baptism, no worries…know that you are always welcome.
We love to receive Holy Communion – the special Meal that Jesus began the night he was betrayed and sent to death. This is the Special Meal which his followers celebrate – and we take part in that special Celebration each and every Sunday. Jesus promised that when we eat the Bread at this Special Meal it would be his Body; Jesus promised that when we drink the Wine at this Special Meal it would be his Blood. Scientifically we can't explain it – but because Jesus said it – we believe it. And because Jesus said it, we understand that this is one more important way that we are connected with the God who made us all, and who continues to love us always…even when we don't feel it.
