Lutheran Social Ministries of Mississippi (LSMM) is now

Lutheran-Episcopal Services of Mississippi (LESM).

At the January 22, 2005 meeting, the board of Lutheran Social Ministries of Mississippi (LSMM) voted to reorganize as Lutheran-Episcopal Services of Mississippi (LESM).  The new social ministry organization is made up of members from the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Southern District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi.

The Reverend Carol Stewart, an Episcopal deacon from Jackson, accepted the called to serve part-time as the executive director of the new organization. She will oversee the work of LESM that includes:

  • Storybook Project-- a ministry that works to connect incarcerated women with their children,
  • ENRICH-- a summer program for disadvantaged children, and
  • Lutheran-Episcopal Disaster Response of Mississippi-- a cooperative effort to respond to disasters across the state.

Additional information about LESM, its plans and programs will be forthcoming in the near future.
