Lutheran Social Ministries of
Mississippi (LSMM) is now
Lutheran-Episcopal Services
of Mississippi (LESM).
At the January 22, 2005 meeting, the board of Lutheran Social Ministries of
Mississippi (LSMM) voted to reorganize as Lutheran-Episcopal Services of
Mississippi (LESM). The new social
ministry organization is made up of members from the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Southern District of the Lutheran Church Missouri
Synod, and the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi.
The Reverend Carol Stewart,
an Episcopal deacon from Jackson,
accepted the called to serve part-time as the executive director of the new
organization. She will oversee the work of LESM that includes:
- Storybook
Project-- a ministry that works to connect incarcerated women with their
children,
- ENRICH--
a summer program for disadvantaged children, and
- Lutheran-Episcopal
Disaster Response of Mississippi-- a cooperative effort to respond to
disasters across the state.
