Weekly Announcements for February 7-13, 2010 Thank you to CVLC Youth for sponsoring "Souper Bowl Sunday of Caring" this Sunday, February 7. This event goes along with "Super Bowl Sunday," when more than 20 years ago, a group of youth began with a simple prayer: "Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat." Thank you to everyone for bringing non-perishable food items and donations to help support the Samaritan Ministry Food Pantry in Jackson County. We congratulate our new Parish Council members for 2010! Join us at the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services this Sunday as we install the new council: Beth Jones-President, Tom Pritchard-V. President, Jocelyn Cupps-Secretary, Pam Bratton-Treasurer, Mike Mayerchak, Lisa Jones, Jim Atkins, Haskel Lee, Sid Sundstrom, and Andrew Beckendorff-Youth. WELCA meets this Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room. All ladies are welcome! Thank you to those who came Saturday, January 30 to our clean-up day. The church looked great inside and out for our Annual Meeting on Sunday. Also, thank you to the kitchen crew who came in Tuesday and got our kitchen "sparkly." We have an awesome church family! As we begin the Easter season, join us for two Ash Wednesday services on February 17 at 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. In this somber service, we reflect upon our mortality and our need of a Savior. This service includes the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion. All are welcome. Wednesday Lenten Services are on Wednesdays, February 24 and March 3, 10, 17 and 24. We begin with a simple meal from 5:30 to 6:15 in the parish hall and at 6:30 we will gather for Holden Evening Prayer led by Pastor Eldon. His message for the Lenten Service is the "seven last words of Christ on the cross." Please join us for these services. We need help with Lenten meals on Wednesdays during Lent. If you can help please sign-up on the list in the narthex. Thank you. Blueberry Pancake Birthday Bash #2 is Sunday, February 28. We will celebrate all kids' birthdays from October to February during the Sunday School hour. WELCA is collecting metal nail files or nail clippers with a nail file during February for health kits for Lutheran World Relief. There is a basket in the narthex for these items. Please note the shopping list in the February Newsletter of other items they will need for the health kits. WELCA thanks everyone for their wonderful donation of "soap" on "fifth Sunday." ELCA Disaster Response-Haiti Earthquake Relief financial gifts are urgently needed. You can help by your gift to ELCA International Disaster Response, designated for Haiti earthquake victims. If you would like to make a donation you may send it directly to ELCA Disaster response. The forms are in the narthex. Your prayers and generous gifts will make a life-saving difference.
